Teacher! Teacher!

If you told me twenty years ago that I would be living in the desert and teaching first grade, I would have called you daft, however, this is where my path took me. (Who knew!) After getting my degree in 3D animation, amazingly enough,  I decided to change the game plan. Oh, I still love to dabble in animation now and again (when I have time), sure, but what I truly love is teaching.  I found my nitch and here I am. Living in Las Vegas, sin city, caring for and molding young minds. And the best part is, I absolutely love every minute of it!

It’s so extremely rewarding watching the growth of your students as they progress throughout the year;  I am so lucky that I get to share the experience with my kiddos as they develop is amazing young individuals. Teaching is Awesome!

Being an educator is a noble profession, however, it does prove to be a very challenging at times. If you are a teacher and some wiseacre comes along and  tells you that teachers are simply a glorified babysitters, you have my permission to sock them right in the nose.  “Walk a mile in my shoes”, is all I have to say and  for those of you who scoff at elementary educators, I encourage you to  volunteer at least one day, heck! one hour and wittiness for yourselves the classroom experience.  Let’s face it. Teaching can be tough. If a person decides to go into teaching  based on the time off  (they think) of work they will be receiving  i.e.  winter and spring break, holidays, summer vacation, think again.  Seriously! Think again.  Between professional development meetings, mandatory meetings,  parent teacher conferences, grading class work on a day to day basis not to mention designing lesson plans that meet curriculum standards, teachers are referees, cheerleaders, doctors, nurses and peacekeepers.

Starting a new career  at midlife wasn’t something I decided to do. I think I have always been drawn to the culture of education.  It just sort of sucked me right in, and I think I am going to stick around the classroom for a while as I truly am hooked on playing the part of educator,  I am in the process of creating a fun teacher survival handbook and am excited to finish it up and get it published.

Hoping it will be ready for print early next year.
